Cleaning Does Pay Off! Surprise Vintage Jewelry Finds

cuffs7

This lovely vintage bohemian garnet brooch was MIA. Couldn’t find it. I had been searching for it everywhere and was beginning to think that I had put it in lot of newer costume jewelry to go to auction. This made me nervous, angry with myself and of course a bit sad.

Well, the other day I was cleaning out some jewelry boxes and lo and behold this is what I found:

Lots of forgotten bracelets and the brooch! How that brooch got in there is a mystery. There is an obvious theme of bangle bracelets and then this lonely lovely brooch.  Many of the bracelets I have had for years and used to wear frequently. Perhaps I stopped wearing them because the box they were was lonely and forgotten. This still doesn’t solve the mystery of the single brooch but that is ok with me!

So I guess cleaning and reorganizing does pay off. One of those tasks that I least enjoy but maybe now I will look at it as an adventure. I may just find some forgotten treasures like the ones below.

1928 Jewelry Collection: Brooches

broochflamingo

I don’t usually wear brooches so I do not have many in my collection.

This is one that I found quite interesting. The pink and green combination reminds me of the old Miami Florida. Plus, who doesn’t  love a flamingo!? Probably will just keep this on the card….or may wear it as a pendant.

broochlocketThis locket brooch was in a large lot of jewelry that I purchased, again not really something that I would normally wear but love the nod to old Victorian lockets.

broochfence1What a whimsical piece for sure. Love how the bouquet the girl is carrying is almost as big as she. The pickets fence and moon add to the whimsy. I may try to wear this as a pendant, will have to see how it works out.

Just kinda fell in love with this one for nostalgic reasons only. Again love bouquets in vases. This one with a hint of whimsy as well.

Finally my favorite so far:

This I will absolutely wear as a pendant. Fantastic detail down to the  bohemian dangle earrings!

Collection Obsession: 1928 Jewelry

Is it really an obsession? fun? just collecting? fashion?hoarding?………..all of the above.

I am in love with 1928 jewelry, especially the vintage/older pieces.  I have recently added a few new pieces to my collection as well.

It is timeless jewelry, that is beautifully designed and made here in the USA!

Someone should write a book about the company!

I will start by sharing some photos and then hope to get into more detail in a later post. Maybe show how I wear the jewelry.

Vintage Jewelry and Christmas Ornaments

My true inspiration for my jewelry designs is vintage jewelry and art. I grew up going to antique stores, museums and flea markets. Not only do I admire and love vintage jewelry but also vintage and vintage style ornaments. Having a Swedish and German background I grew up with wonderful old Christmas ornaments adorning the trees. This turned into an obsession with collecting German ornaments. I have amassed a wonderful collection only half of which I can display on one tree.ornamentornament1 ornament2 ornament3

The main tree is a live tree that I cut down and yes we do have a small pink tree. My daughter wanted a pink tree for her room so since I have so many ornaments we went for it! I’ll try to get a picture of the entire tree when the lighting is better.

and now a few pieces of vintage jewelry to adorn your body! Happy Holidays to all.

Making Something New From Old

I have always loved vintage and antique jewelry and accessories. Jewelry easy to wear so no problem but what about shoe clips or dress clips or even that broken piece of jewelry.  I decided that I would start using these old forgotten pieces and create jewelry using them.  One thing I do not do is damage, bend ,shape, drill or alter a perfectly good piece of vintage jewelry. It must be broken or missing something like the other half of the buckle.  I do use vintage dress clips but never ever drill them I just wire wrap a bail and you have a ready pendant.  Here are a few examples:
